The Department of Treasury and Finance, Western Australia is acknowledged for its exceptional achievements in delivering the Government’s procurement reform agenda.

The Department of Treasury and Finance program, ‘Setting the Standard’ has been awarded the overall winner of the 2007 Premier’s Award for Excellence in Public Sector Management and also the category winner for Governance and Public Sector Improvement.

Through a successful program of cultural change and focusing on people, ‘Setting the Standard’ has achieved extraordinary results which have long-lasting benefits for the entire community of Western Australia. At the heart of the success of the program is the principle that investing in people is the first step towards achieving objectives.
As a result of exceptional management, good governance and innovative new approaches, the program is expected to achieve savings in the vicinity of $440 million by June 2008.
The Department’s creative approach in implementing a reform agenda; its unique business model; and innovative approach to achieving strategic objectives have resulted in exceeding expectations in the delivery of improvements and achieving outstanding success.

The Office of Government Procurement within the Department of Treasury and Finance has promoted the procurement function across the Western Australia public sector. The Treasurer’s Procurement Awards program recognises the importance of government procurement, and acknowledges the significant work undertaken by agencies and individuals.

The inaugural CIPS Australia Procurement Professional Awards recognises the continual development of creative solutions to key strategic procurement challenges.
The Department of Treasury and Finance program, ‘Setting the Standard’ received the Best Process Improvement Initiative and the Best Improved Procurement Operation which recognises the success from a procurement function that had undergone a substantial improvement.
The CIPS Leadership Award went to John Tondut, Executive Director, Government Procurement, Department of Treasury and Finance, WA for providing exceptional contribution and for demonstrating outstanding leadership towards the procurement profession.
