On the 11 June 2009, Simon Power, the NZ government Minister for Commerce, launched a far-reaching reform of government procurement across New Zealand. Endorsing the strong support for professional procurement in New Zealand, Minister Power chise the 2009 CIPSA conference in Auckland to make his announcement.
The reform is ambitious in its intent and is part of a wider governemnt response to imporve value for money in the current economic climate. The reform calls for rapid change in government procurement performannce and had a strong focus on delivering tangible savings.
To drive change, the reform covers four broard themes:
- Cost savings;
- Building procurement capacity and capability;
- Enhanced business participation; and
- Improved governance, oversight and accountability.
