As major purchasers of building and construction, agencies have a key role to play in driving cultural change to improve safety in this industry. On 22 April 2008, the Federal Safety Commissioner (FSC) launched 'The Model Client: Promoting Safe Construction' resource material at a workshop for Australian Government Agencies. This resource material outlines a series of OHS activities suitable for agencies to implement during the various stages of a construction project.
The resource consists of 5 booklets:
1. The Model Client Framework
2. The planning stage
3. The design and procurement stage
4. The construction stage
5. The completion stage
The introductory booklet describes the key elements of the OHS processes and an implementation approach. Subsequent booklets contain activities for the various stages of the project supported by a range of resource materials including checklists, templates and tools. Other resources include the Project OHS Process Map and a CD featuring Word versions of the resource materials.
